Every time Canadians buy a second-hand item, they pay a federal sales tax called HST. Even though the tax was already paid the first time. That’s paying tax on the same thing twice.

SHT (Second-Hand Tax) is a counter tax that eliminates the unfair double tax on second-hand items. HST is 13% and SHT is -13%. Meaning, customers pay 0% tax on our As-is (second-hand) items. The campaign captured the attention of the Canadian government and IKEA met with the office of the Prime Minister to talk about a change in policy that would put an end to the double tax on second-hand items, for good.
